The Asheville Reading Circle Presents:
Society of the Spectacle by Guy Debord
No book required, just show up and we read and discuss the work collectively.
This is a 1967 work of French Marxist philosophy detailing the author's skepticism of what he calls Spectacle, generally mass media. Debord's view was that the image of reality, more than reality, is what the present civilization aims at sustaining, possibly at the expense of civilization's existence. We will discuss the work and any potential relevance to the present era.
Bring anything you want to share. See you there!
