What is a zine?

Because of their DIY nature, they usually take the form of a thick pamphlet that is staple-bound or sewn. A zine is usually made by creating a master: often collaged, hand-written or illustrated. The master is then photocopied & multiple copies are bound by hand to make an affordable small print run.

Zine content runs the gamut (body positivity, anti-racism, navigating the legal system, herbal medicine, LGBTQA+, how-to, art, punk memoir, ect.!), but it’s often the kind that has been overlooked or censored by cultural majorities. It’s the expression of these inhibited perspectives, as well as fresh creative energy, that makes zine content so different from what you’ll find in a standard publication.

But you don’t have to be a “writer”, an “artist” or any specialized kind of person to make a zine! Anyone with something to say can make a zine; that’s just part of its egalitarian nature. Most zine-makers are more interested in the distribution of truth over profit: which is a pretty radical thing.

We would love to carry it! If you are in the area, you can drop off copies at our physical location. If you are elsewhere, please give us a call & introduce yourself at 828-253-8654. Then mail us some zines!

Please send five copies per issue with your name & contact info. Our pay ratio is 60/40; you keep 60% of your sales. You choose their price, keeping this in mind. Check in on your sales at any time over the phone or in person. If we run out & need more we will contact you at that time.
